Are your cambelt timing marks not quite lining up? No matter how many times you re- align the marks they're always 1/8-1/2 a tooth off. Dont worry you did nothing wrong! This issue is prevalent in the Subaru EJ engines, frustrating and worrying Engine Builders and Technicians for years.
The Cause?
This problem has two main causes with the root issue being that the longblock length has increased or decreased. This is due to either; machine work being carried out on the block/head mating surface reducing the longblock length (which effectively retards the timing), or a thicker head gasket being installed (which advances the timing). The timing belt has stayed a constant length and the tensioner can only take up a certain amount of slack.
The Solution?
RSD has designed and produced our very own eccentric idler bearings for the EJ20, EJ22 and EJ25 Engines! Featuring; a dual bearing design for long life and increased support, high quality NSK bearings, a 10mm hex for easy adjustment and are individually marked to show which idler adjusts what side. These are your answer to correct those misaligned cam gears!
Starting life as an OEM genuine NSK bearing, we fully disassemble the idler bearing and, using our special tooling to ensure an accurate and precise fitment, install our CNC machined and Anodized eccentric inserts. Supplied as a set of 2 idler pulleys (upper and lower) with appropriate grade 12.9 Cap screws and schnorr lock safety washers.
